• Welcome to third grade!

Hello! I am, Mr. Austin and I am, Mrs. Duerwachter. We will be your teachers this year! We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to be part an innovative co-taught room. Our classroom is The Grit Pit which encourages students to persevere and problem solve.. Our community of learners will become empowered while we are “Growing Wonder into WOW” during our time together. Let us tell you a little bit more about each of us.

I am Mr. Austin. I have been teaching at Pewaukee Lake for the past seven years after teaching five years in my previous school.  My wife, Julia and I have a 6 year old son, Connor, who goes to PLE.  We also have a 3 year old son, Graham, and a dog named Tank.  We love doing anything outside and spend a lot of time in the summer cheering on the Brewers at Miller Park.  I also enjoy playing any outdoor sports and activities including fishing, golfing, and coaching the PHS football players.

I am Mrs. Duerwachter (Deer-walk-ter). This will be my 19th year at PLE. My house is busy with my husband, and my son, Ryan, working from home while my two dogs, Zoey and Fiona, are running around. My daughter, Karri, lives in Pewaukee and works as the Development Projects and Alumni Relations Coordinator at CMH. Brad, my second oldest, lives in Oconomowoc. He’s a police officer with the State Capitol Police Department. Ryan, the youngest, will be graduating from UW-Whitewater in December. He plays lacrosse, bartends, and is a web designer.  I spent a lot of time this summer coaching PHS’ Varsity Cheer and Sparkle Crew teams. Be sure to come to some PHS games to help cheer the Pirates on to VICTORY and see both of us!

In third grade, you will be learning how to write in cursive, multiply and divide, and much, much more! We will read many great stories and silly poems. You will have your own computer, in class, as a tool to explore, create, and grow as a learner.

To help kick off our writing and reading this year, we need each of you to bring in five or six pictures or copies of pictures from things you did this summer and of the people that were with you. The photos will all be returned to you, so please label them on the back.

Our first day with all of the classmates will be on Tuesday, September 6th.  Do not forget to bring in your reading calendar that your second grade teacher gave you last year, so we can see how many minutes you have read this summer!
