Attendance Reporting

Please call Ms. Miranda Laffin in the Attendance Office (262-695-5024 or laffmir@pewaukeeschools.org) each morning (prior to 7:30 a.m.) your child will be absent from school or tardy to school. If your child has an appointment during the school day, send a note with your child stating the time they need to leave and the reason. Your child should bring this note to the Attendance Office prior to the start of school on the day of their appointment to get an off-campus permit.

Tardies: Parents are allowed to excuse a child's tardy up to 5 times each year. All other tardies will be considered unexcused. After a student receives 3 unexcused tardies, they will be issued "structured lunch detentions" that will be served on a specific day. If a student reaches more than 5 tardies, administration will be in contact with you.

Absences: Parents are allowed to excuse their child for up to 10 days per year. Once you are close to that limit, noticifications will be sent home. If your child is excused from school due to illness or medical appointment, and you have received a note from a MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL, please send this in with your child and we will medically excuse their absence. This does NOT count against their attendance then.

2020-21 Updated Attendance Procedures:

Parents are encouraged to check their child’s attendance, which can be done in Family Access. Once logged in to Skyward you will see the “Attendance” tab on the left hand side. Click that and if your child has any absences they will be listed.

We understand that the start of the school year brought new expectations and routines.  Beginning next week, if we do not hear from you or your child and your child is marked absent, it will be coded as “unexcused”.  Per the district attendance policy, any student who is absent from school without an acceptable excuse (unexcused) for part or all of five (5) or more days on which school is held during a semester will be declared a “habitual truant.”  Our goal is to collaborate with you to accurately report your child's attendance.

HYBRID LEARNING MODEL

  1. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class period for students who are learning at school and learning from home.
    1. If a student learning from home is not logged in on time, then they will be marked absent.
      1. If the student was having a tech issue (tried logging in and couldn’t, logged into the wrong class, internet issues..etc) then the student or parent must reach out to their teacher or Miranda Laffin (laffmir@pewaukeeschools.org) within 20 minutes after class starts. Their attendance will be marked as an excused tardy.  If not it will be considered an unexcused absence.
      2. If the student or parent reaches out after 20 minutes of class it will be marked as an excused absence.
    2. If the student is in-person for the day and does not show up for class, it will be an unexcused absence.
    3. If a student is in-person for the day and arrives to class late without a note from a staff then they will be marked as an unexcused tardy.
  2. Attendance will not be taken for students learning from home during House Flex.
  3. Students at Home for Emergency Remote Learning
    1. Students will follow their normal schedule and will need to check into each class period.
      1. If that student is too sick to participate virtually, then the parent/guardian will need to call or email Miranda Laffin (laffmir@pewaukeeschools.org or 262-695-5024) to make sure it gets coded as an excused absence for illness.

VIRTUAL ONLY OPT-IN LEARNING MODEL

      1. If they do so, the absence will be changed to an excused tardy.
