New Mountain Biking Club Pedals Pirate Power!

The Wisconsin High School Cycling League is in its fifth season and is affiliated with NICA, the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. Pewaukee schools were part of a composite team the past two years but had enough interest and students to break from the composite and form its own team this year. Currently, 17 students from grades 6-12 participate in the club!
"There are nearly 40 school teams involving almost 600 student athletes statewide and the sport growing," said team director Andy Douglass. "According to the league, it's the fastest-growing student sport in Wisconsin."
On Sunday, Sept. 10, 15 racers from Pewaukee schools turned out about 156 combined miles! That's a lot of Pirate power!
"While a few of our Pewaukee students have raced before, the majority have never raced mountain bikes," added coach Pete Gull, whose main focus is to inspire and coach kids at practice and races. Mr. Gull has also inspired many of his Horizon Middle School students to participate!
