What are manners? Manners are some things used everyday to make a good impression on others and to feel good about oneself… being polite and courteous means considering how others are feeling. When you practice good manners you are showing those around you that you are considerate of their feelings and respectful. No matter where you are - at home, at school with friends- practicing good manners is important.

We have received a thank you letter from the Pewaukee Food Pantry and it reads - THANK YOU Horizon School - your large donation was very appreciated.  It is especially nice to have a wide variety of items so families have several choices of things to pick from. Almost everyone goes through difficult times at some point in their lives.  We are fortunate to live in a community where neighbors are about each other. There are about 200 families coming to the pantry each month to get food. It takes a lot of people working together to help feed a community.  Thank you all for caring and sharing!

From Karen Semrad and Judy Litvin - Co-coordinators

FRIDAY 10/12 #2

Did you remember to wear blue today in honor of World Arthritis day?  Here’s a quick peek at some very successful people who fought against this disease that could have made it easy to give up but they did not and they pushed themselves to do noteworthy things - Did you know that basketball player Shaquille O’Neal has osteoarthritis as does famous golfer Phil Mickelson?  A very funny comedian who used Physical comedy was Lucille Ball and she had arthritis. And someone who has made visits to us in the past, American Ninja Warrior Abel Gonzalez has told us how diet, exercise and good sleep has helped him battle his arthritis. So thank you to all who wore blue today to show they support those who struggle and succeed in beating Arthritis.!  If you want to further support the Arthritis Foundation, go to www.jbr.org/milwaukee to sign up for the Jingle Bell Run!

6th Grade Pirate News Crew meets today at 12:45pm in Mrs. Setter’s office.  Please bring your red pass with you.

WEDNESDAY 10/10 #5

5th grade student council members please meet TODAY during recess in Miss Kays room.

4th grade student council, please meet in Miss DeWitt’s room at FIRST recess at 10:00.

So what is Arthritis that we have talked about for World Arthritis day?   It is a disease where the joints hurt because the cartilage between joints tends to wear away.  Sometimes the body attacks its own joints. Sometimes something like Lyme’s disease can cause it and sometimes crystals form in the joints if you do not hydrate enough (this is called gout).  Taking care of our body, eating healthy foods, getting exercise and sleeping enough can always help make us healthy. Don’t forget to wear blue on Friday to bring about awareness of World Arthritis day!

A reminder that the mile run will be held on Thursday, Friday and Monday.  The weather is going to cool down this week. Please come prepared for outdoor classes.

Due to rain in the forecast PE classes will be inside today.  Mr. Ebbole’s classes should return to Asa today.

TUESDAY 10/9 #4

Did you know that roughly 300,000 kids in the US have arthritis?  It is a disease that affects over 50 million adults but it can start when you are young. Treating it right away is important and so in order to bring an awareness of what Arthritis is, this Friday October 12 has been designated as WORLD ARTHRITIS DAY and to support those who have it and to show you are aware, can everyone wear as much blue as possible on Friday?  More reminders this week but writing down in your assignment notebook that you want to wear BLUE on Friday will really help remind us all on Friday to join in to be aware.
