  • Dear Pewaukee Families:

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable summer!  I look forward to working with your family ensuring the highest quality of education possible for your child.

Pewaukee Public Schools is starting their fourth year of comprehensive inclusionary practices.  Our hope is that by making every child feel an integral part of a classroom family and part of the greater school community, we will help every child to reach their full potential.

I am so appreciative of the response to the Student Services Department Survey.  Thirty percent of our families responded to the survey for the 2016-2017 school year.  The survey will be deployed October 2017 with an emphasis on one particular question that was flagged in the 2016-2017 school year - “I believe the staff is implementing IEP services consistent with my child’s IEP.”  We are working hard as a department to communicate services and would like to increase this from 88% agree and strongly agree to 94% of our families agree or strongly agree.  Know that your children are important to us and we value your input.  Please set aside a few minutes this October to fill out the survey.  We appreciate it very much!

I would like to introduce our new special education staff:

Jodi Viera, School Psychologist - Graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in psychology.  She later earned her Master of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire majoring in psychology.  Jodi comes to Pewaukee with 20 years of experience from the Wauwatosa School District.  We are very excited to welcome her to our Student Services Department.

Leah Dorrance, Special Education Teacher - Graduated from the University Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis on special education.  She worked in the Monona Grove School District for the past two years.  Leah has gained valuable experience working as a camp counselor at Camp AweSum providing twenty-four hour support for four children with autism spectrum disorders.  She has also worked for the Boys and Girls Club and Family Support Resource Center supporting youth with disabilities.

Shannon Kalamarz, Special Education Teacher - Graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a regular education major and special education minor.  After Shannon completed her degree, she worked for Milwaukee Public Schools for two years as an elementary school teacher.  Shannon most recently worked as a sixth grade teacher at Horizon Elementary.  She is excited to work with Horizon’s fifth grade inclusion classroom.

I would like to thank Jake and Erin Gould for their continued oversight of SEFAC.  The SEFAC role continues to be instrumental in addressing parental concerns, disseminating resources, knowledge and perspective to families needing guidance and support as they navigate the many challenges that special education students encounter in the school and community.

I look forward to working with all of the Pewaukee families to strengthen not only how we educate our young people but build a community of learners that support one another.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer!

Anthony Strancke, Director of Student Services
